18L Bokashi Compost Bin - Compact Indoor Food Waste Recycling The 18L Bokashi Compost Bin is a compact, airtight indoor composting system designed for efficient kitchen food waste recycling. Ideal for smaller households, this under sink compost bin uses anaerobic fermentation to process cooked and uncooked food scraps. What Is Bokashi Composting? Bokashi is a Japanese term meaning fermented organic matter. Unlike traditional composting which requires oxygen, Bokashi composting uses beneficial microorganisms to ferment food waste inside an airtight container. This helps minimise odours and allows a wider range of kitchen waste to be processed. How To Use Add cooked or uncooked food scraps to the bucket. Sprinkle Bokashi bran over each layer. Bran sold separately. Press down firmly to remove air pockets. Keep the lid tightly sealed at all times. Drain liquid every few days using the tap. When full, leave sealed for 2 to 3 weeks to complete fermentation. Installation and Setup Fit the tap securely into the base of the bucket. Insert the inner separation tray. Place a sheet of newspaper over the tray. Add a base layer of Bokashi bran and begin composting. No plumbing or electricity required.
