Rodríguez family winery was founded in 1988 in A Paixón, Galicia. The winery, which owns just under 3 hectares of vineyards spread across 29 plots, practices environmentally friendly viticulture with low yields and produces premium wines from native varieties. Vina de Martin Escolma is a blend of Albariño, Treixadura, Lado, and Torrontés grapes, hand-picked from the winery's oldest vines, planted on the steep slopes of the Ribeiro DOC, and characterized by sandy-siliceous soils. After harvest, each variety is vinified separately and spontaneously in oak barrels of various sizes. The finished wine then ages for 12 months in new barrels and for 3 years in the bottle. Its name (Escolma) in Galician means "selection”, and indeed, the wine is produced only in the best vintages. In the glass, the wine reveals a straw-yellow color with golden highlights. The nose opens with hints of white fruit, citrus, and herbs, followed by a well-defined mineral note. On the palate, it is rounded, distinctive, and smooth, with a lively, refreshing acidity and a juicy texture. The finish is long and fruity, with a light smoky touch. Try it with grilled turbot, Galician-style octopus, or sushi.
