Founded in 1980, Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon & Fils is a family-run Burgundy winery located in Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate, which spans approximately 15 hectares of vineyards across important appellations such as Clos-de-Vougeot, Mazis, Morey, and, of course, Gevrey-Chambertin, is now managed by Alexis, the son of founder Jean-Michel. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the Clos des Portes, a fenced parcel of just over one hectare located north of the village of Marsannay. After manual harvesting and fermentation in stainless steel, the wine ages in new oak for approximately 18 months. In the glass, the wine reveals a brilliant dark ruby color and a broad, expressive aromatic profile with fruity notes of ripe cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, followed by spicy hints of pepper and some earthy and leathery touches. On the palate, it is round, smooth, and elegant. It has good structure, firm yet well-integrated tannins, and a pleasant, refreshing acidity. It is smooth with a long finish that evokes notes of undergrowth and spices. It is the ideal wine for truffled Tuscan steak or roasted porcini mushrooms.
