Notes of apricot, orchard fruits, lemon zest, and salinity leap from this delicious bottle of white Burgundy. It is made from 100% Chardonnay vines, planted between 1970 and 2015 in the Clos du Roy – an esteemed vineyard in the northernmost part of Marsannay, with mineral-rich clay-limestone soils that provide this wine with excellent depth. Founded in 1962 in the heart of Marsannay by Jean Fournier, this winery offers one of the most celebrated and well-rounded ranges of wine in the region. These days it is owned and operated by Jean’s son, Laurent, the latest in a very long line of Fournier winemakers and grape growers, dating all the way back to the 17th century. The Clos du Roy Blanc is an elegant and aromatic wine, with a gorgeous pale gold colour. It envelopes the mouth in flavours of pear, green apple skin, lemon curd, and delicate white flowers. Undercurrents of saline minerality and honeysuckle sweep through to the finish. You can also discover a racy acidity, providing the wine with structure and a distinctly fresh character. Consider pairing this wine with seafood, chicken, or a soft, pungent cheese.
