Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Founded in 2001 in Castagneto Carducci, in the province of Livorno, the I Greppi estate extends over approximately 37 hectares, of which over 25 are vineyards. The company is now managed by the McMahon family who acquired it in 2017. Greppicante Bolgheri is a blend of mostly Merlot, with additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The grapes are selected and harvested from vineyards planted on soils composed predominantly of silty and ferrous sands with deep clay. After fermentation in steel and a period of maceration on the skins, half of the finished wine is aged in a mix of new and used French oak for 12 months, while the rest is kept in steel. In the glass, the wine reveals a bright color with intense ruby tones. Its aromatic profile is complex and fragrant with a bouquet of small berries and flowers intertwined with hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is smooth, full-bodied and rich. It has a very pleasant fruit concentration, velvety tannins, and a long finish. It is an easy-to-approach wine, also capable of aging well for a few years in the cellar. Try it with grilled meat.
