Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. The Grivot family have been making delicious Burgundy for over four generations. Brother and sister Hubert and Mathilde are the current caretakers of the domaine, building on the work of their father Étienne who focused heavily on modernising the cellar and reducing vineyard yields from the 2000s onwards. This hard work has reaped huge dividends, with the Grivots now ranked amongst the greatest names in Burgundy. Their Aux Lavieres cuvee hails from a plot on the Vosne-Romanée side of Nuits-Saint-Georges, harmoniously blending the purity and focus of Nuits-Saint-Georges with the opulence of Vosne-Romanée. This exceptional terroir provides the building blocks for an exceptional bottle of wine that punches high above the price tag. In the winery the family uses a light touch, ageing the young wine in 20% new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Fragrant floral notes step forward on the nose followed by nuanced notes of red cherry, baked earth, and tangy redcurrant. The palate offers a firm medium body bolstered by graceful tannins and a solid core of ripe red fruit. The finesse and presence of this wine makes it a good choice to enjoy with duck dishes or even rich pasta dishes served with a tomato-based sauce.
