Alois Lageder Lowengang Chardonnay 2021

78

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. Founded in 1823 by Johann Lageder and then taken over by his son Alois in 1855, the Alois Lageder winery is located in Trentino Alto Adige. Over the years, the company, now in its sixth family generation, has acquired vineyards up to the 50 hectares owned today that are cultivated organically and biodynamically. Lowengang is produced with Chardonnay grapes from vineyards located between 250 and 500 meters above sea level, in the areas of Magrè, Cortaccia, Salorno, and Pochi. Here the vines enjoy a mild climate with sunny summers and a soil rich in pebbles, sand, and gravel. These conditions favor the production of mature and concentrated wines, with good freshness. After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place in steel and the finished wine rests for about 4 months in steel. In the glass, the wine reveals a clear color with straw yellow tones and bright greenish reflections. Its aromatic profile releases intense fruity notes of pear, apple, melon, and peach, followed by floral and vanilla hints. On the palate, it has a good structure, a medium body, and a soft and smooth texture. It has a clear mineral vein and a refreshing and well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and recalls citrus and mineral notes. Try it as an aperitif on a hot summer day, with seafood or grilled chicken.
