Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. Located in Sicily, on the north side of the Etna volcano, the Girolamo Russo winery owns about 18 hectares of vineyards, cultivated organically. The company, managed by Giuseppe, Girolamo's son, produces high-quality wines that beautifully reflect the typicality of the unique terroir of this fantastic corner of Sicily. Nerina is a blend of mostly Carricante with the addition of other native vines including Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico, Minnella, and Coda di Volpe. The grapes are selected and harvested manually from vines aged between 50 and 100 years located in San Lorenzo, Feudo, and Calderara Sottana. After spontaneous fermentation at a controlled temperature and a short maceration on the skins, the finished wine ages for 6 months in a mix of used tonneaux and steel (30% and 70% respectively), before a further 6 months in the bottle. The wine shows a bright color with straw tones and slightly golden reflections. On the nose, it is elegant and fragrant and reveals a broad bouquet with citrus and floral notes and salty and mineral hints on a spicy background. On the palate, it is fresh and lively with a well-balanced acidic vein and a long finish that recalls mineral notes. It pairs well with all fish but is exceptional with red prawns.
