Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in Passopisciaro, on the northern slope of the Etna volcano, the Girolamo Russo estate extends over approximately 18 hectares of vineyards cultivated organically. The company is managed by Girolamo's son, Giuseppe. As per tradition, the wine is a blend composed mainly of Nerello Mascalese with small additions of Nerello Cappuccio. The grapes come from parcels between 650 and 800 meters in the districts of Feudo, San Lorenzo, Calderara Sottana, and Feudo di Mezzo. The vines, aged between 20 and 100 years, benefit from sandy soils of volcanic origin. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature and the finished wine then rests for a year in large Slavonian oak barrels and cement tanks, and a further 6 months in the bottle. The Etna Rosso A' Rina is an elegant and complex wine that reveals a bright ruby color and a broad and fragrant aromatic profile with fruity notes of currants, small berries, and cherries, followed by hints of leather, spices, medicinal herbs and tobacco. On the palate, it is soft, fruity and rich. It has a good structure, fine and well-integrated tannins, and a long refreshing finish. It is excellent with game birds and pasta with goose ragù.
