Clement & Florian Berthier Sancerre Les Chasseignes 2020

30

Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in 1983 by Jean-Marie Berthier, Domaine Berthier is now run by his sons Clement and Florian, respectively responsible for winemaking and marketing, and work in the vineyard. The estate, expanded in the late 90s with the purchase of Domaine Montbenoit, extends over approximately 24 hectares of vineyards worked according to eco-sustainable practices. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from vineyards characterized by calcareous and flinty soils that guarantee the production of mineral and fresh wines. The semi-continental climate typical of this part of the Loire Valley, tempered by the proximity of the ocean, favors the slow ripening of the grapes and the development of their aromatic character. The Sancerre Les Chasseignes is a lean and elegant white wine with a clear straw-yellow color. On the nose, it reveals a broad and intense aromatic profile with lively notes of candied citrus and grapefruit peel, exotic fruit, and white peach, followed by mineral and floral scents. On the palate, it is fruity, fresh, and crisp. It has a refreshing acidity and a pleasant mineral vein that lingers on the finish. It is the ideal wine for mixed salads, seafood, and spaghetti with clams. Among the traditional pairings, don't miss the one with Crottin de Chavignol goat cheese, whose fresh pungency will enhance the aromatic character of the wine.
