Drink it now or cellar for up to 30 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in the late 1950s by the union of the Alsatian estates Humbrecht and Zind, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the most prestigious wineries in the region and produces a range of excellent quality wines from its extraordinary vineyards (which include some of the most renowned Crus of Alsace). The Gewurztraminer grapes come from two old plots located in the south/southeast of the Grand Cru Hengst, planted between the 1920s and the early 1950s, as a result of a massal selection. It is an old variety with a spicier and less fragrant character and with a thicker skin. The vineyard enjoys particularly favorable soil and climate conditions for the production of quality wines with a red Oligocene limestone soil, rich in iron and a dry and warm climate that favors a slow and complete maturation. The resulting wines have an austere and complex style with a tannic backbone that guarantees excellent aging potential. Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Hengst is an elegant wine with a sober but complex aromatic profile with spicy, mineral, and exotic fruit notes. On the palate, it is rich and velvety, harmonious and ripe with a lively and refreshing acidity that extends into the long finish. It is excellent with blue cheeses and Asian fish recipes.
