F.X. Pichler Gruner Veltliner Ried Kellerberg 2020

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. The Austrian winery F.X. Pichler is one of the most renowned and representative of the Wachau wine region. It was founded in 1898 and is now managed by Lucas Pichler, son of Franz Xaver (FX). The company, considered by Robert Parker as the "Château Latour, or the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of Wachau", is also famous for the selection of Grüner Veltliner clones made in the 30s by Franz Pichler Sr. Situated on steep slopes and rocky terraces, the Kellerberg vineyard produces grapes of excellent quality, thanks to exceptional soil and climate conditions. Here, the vines enjoy a south-to-south-east exposure, and a soil composed of Gföhler gneiss with a rocky substrate. Grüner Veltliner Ried Kellerberg is a bold and concentrated wine with a broad aromatic profile. On the nose, it shows notes of green melon, citrus, spice, tropical fruit, and mineral hints. On the palate, it is rich and vibrant, complex and soft. It has a well-defined mineral vein, some salty touches, and a strong invigorating acidity. The finish is long, powerful, and persistent. It is a wine with excellent aging potential, but is ready to be enjoyed now with spicy Asian dishes, fried artichokes and seafood.
