Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. Located in the heart of the Carnuntum region in Lower Austria, Markowitsch is a family-run winery with a long tradition. The Markowitsch family has been cultivating vines for over 200 years and today the estate is managed by Gerhard together with his daughter. The vineyards, cultivated organically, extend over approximately 65 hectares. The Gruner Veltliner grapes are harvested by hand from vines that are around 35 years old and planted on soils consisting of sandy and clayey sediments. After harvesting and fermentation at a controlled temperature in a mix of steel and large barrels, the finished wine rests on the lees in steel and wood before being bottled and released for sale. GrĂ¼ner Veltliner Alte Reben is a characterful and complex wine, a classic example of what this Austrian grape variety can achieve in the Carnuntum region. On the nose, it reveals a broad aromatic profile with notes of stone fruit, tropical fruit, and spices. On the palate, it is concentrated and ripe, balanced and round. It has a creamy texture and a refreshing acidity. The finish is long, warm, and delicately spicy. It is the ideal wine to pair with asparagus, Schnitzel, and spicy Asian dishes.
