Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located in the Carnuntum region, in Lower Austria, Weingut Philipp Grassl is a family-run winery, managed by Philipp Grassl since 2006. The estate covers about 30 hectares of vineyards cultivated according to organic standards. In the cellar, the approach is focused on minimal intervention to allow the grapes to fully express their character. Ried Schüttenberg is a wine based on the local Zweigelt variety, produced with selected grapes from a single vineyard. Here, the vines, about 45 years old, enjoy a southwest exposure with a cooler microclimate and gravelly and clayey soils. These conditions favor the production of concentrated grapes and complex wines with good aging potential. In the glass, the wine reveals a dark garnet-red color with violet reflections. Its aromatic profile is intense and broad with fruity notes of blackberry, cherry, and plum, hints of tobacco, aromatic herbs, and spices. On the palate, it is juicy and characterful, fresh and complex with good structure and firm and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and recalls light notes of chocolate. It is a food-friendly wine, which pairs well with game, roasted mushrooms, and smoked meats.
