Drink it now or cellar for up to 30 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie, in Ampuis, Domaine René Rostaing is a prestigious estate with around 11 hectares of vineyards spread across several plots in the Côte-Rôtie, plus parcels in Condrieu and Coteaux du Languedoc. The work in the vineyard is manual and managed according to sustainable agriculture methods. The estate is now in the hands of Pierre Rostaing. The grapes come from a plot of less than 2 hectares located in La Landonne. Here, the vines are rooted in soils composed of schistose sands with the presence of iron oxide, and produce low yields. After traditional vinification, the finished wine rests in 228-liter Burgundy barrels and 600-liter demi-muids for approximately 24 months. The use of new wood is limited (13%) to enhance the expression of the terroir and preserve the purity of the fruit and the freshness of the wine. The wine reveals a broad and complex aromatic profile with notes of berries, blackcurrant, raspberry, and cherry, followed by hints of violet, spice, and licorice. On the palate, it is rich, powerful, and well-structured. It has a firm tannic backbone and a well-balanced acidity. It is fruity, concentrated, and soft with a long spicy finish that persists for a long time. Try it with a hearty pheasant stew or a roast shoulder of lamb.
