Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Known as one of Burgundy’s most renowned names, Benjamin Leroux is a first-generation vigneron who, after stints as a director in Pommard for Domaine du Comte Armand, decided to set up his own business in Beaune in 2007. Since then, Benjamin has quickly proven his talent, producing premium wines from purchased grapes. The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from Maison Dieu in Pommard, Mon Poulain in Volnay, and Belles Côtes in Meursault, as well as from the villages of St-Romain and Monthelie. After vinification, the finished wine is aged two-thirds in foudres, and one-third in used Burgundian barriques. Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge has a bright, vibrant ruby color with light purple hues. On the nose, it reveals a fresh, exuberant aromatic profile with notes of ripe berries and cherries, sweet spices, and some minerality. On the palate, it is juicy and fruity, broad and rounded. It has a medium-light body, a well-balanced acidity, and silky, fine tannins. The finish is long with mineral hints. This is an elegant and youthful wine, to be served with coq au vin, porcini risotto, quail, and cheese and mushroom crostini.
