Cellar for 25 years or more. Decant for 2 hours or more before serving. This Barbaresco opens with a complex and beguiling nose of purple flowers: violet, lavender, and rose petals intermingle with herbal hints and a main body of blackberry and sour cherry. It is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo from the Montefico vineyard, which rests on calcareous limestone soils, imparting a mineral complexity. Produttori del Barbaresco is a winery that emphasises the purity of its land, strictly using the Nebbiolo grape grown in the region of Barbaresco. It is a cooperative endeavour, founded in 1958 and composed of over 50 grape growers who have worked the land for generations. The growers were united by Don Fiorino Marengo, the parish priest, whose home served as the first makeshift cellar for the producers of Barbaresco. This wine is medium-bodied in the mouth, with a powerful, angular style that Nebbiolo lovers will enjoy. The tannins are packed and earthy, contrasting with the overall impression of ripe red fruit. You can also discover hints of sage, mint, and pepper as the wine opens up. It was aged in oak barrels for at least 30 months, with 12 months more in the bottle before release. Consider pairing this Barbaresco with mushroom risotto, red meats, or mature cheeses.
