Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located in Torano Nuovo, in the province of Teramo, the Emidio Pepe winery was founded in 1964 and is now one of the most renowned wine producers in Abruzzo. From the beginning, the company decided to abolish the use of chemical products in the vineyard and use natural fertilizers and, since 1998, it has been certified organic. In 2008, biodynamic certification was also added. The wine is made with Montepulciano grapes from vineyards that are approximately 30 years old and planted on clay soils. After spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in glass-lined cement tanks, the wine rests in the same tanks for 24 months before being bottled without filtration. In the glass, Emidio Pepe's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo reveals an intense color with ruby red tones. Its aromatic profile is rich and fragrant with notes of red fruit and spices and earthy hints in the background. On the palate, it is powerful, soft, and balanced. It has velvety tannins, a full body, and a pleasant mineral vein. The finish is long and fruity. It is a wine of great class, with excellent aging capacity. Leave it in the cellar for a few years or enjoy it now with grilled red meat, lasagna bolognese or mature cheeses.
