Vina Vik Omega Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

22

Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for 2 hours or more before serving. This is a charming, France-inspired blend from Vina Vik, composed of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Carmenère, and 2% Syrah. All of the fruits were harvested from inside Cachapoal Valley in Chile, a diverse location cooled by ocean winds. This dry red wine opens with dark fruit aromas, with underpinnings of sweet strawberry, vanilla, and warm spices. In 2004, the Norwegian entrepreneur Alexander Vik travelled to the other side of the world to establish his own winery in Chile. With the help of Napa and Bordeaux expert Patrick Valette, his estate caught the wave of Chile’s rise on the international wine scene. It consists of 900 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Millahue Valley, which aptly translates to “Place of Gold”. On the palate, Omega is complex and robust, with soft, integrated tannins. It is packed with dark fruit character: look for notes of plum, blackcurrant, and cranberry, alongside earthy flavours of tobacco, cocoa, and spice. Before release, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The woody tannins shine through on the finish. Consider pairing this wine with red meat, barbecued foods, or a tomato-rich stew.
