Cellar for 15 years or more. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. Domaine des Clos is a prestigious winery founded in 1995 by Grégoire Bichot, a member of the renowned Bichot family. Located in the heart of Burgundy's wine country, the estate operates within a 6-hectare strip of vineyards in the appellations of Chablis, Beaune, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Firstly, some explanation: “Vieilles Vignes” means “Old Vines”, and “1926” refers to the exact year in which the vines were planted. The fruits for this wine were sourced from a vineyard on the edge of Pommard, planted almost a century ago. Naturally, this adds some complexity, character and longevity to this gorgeous Pinot Noir. The nose of this wine is alive with scintillating scents of raspberries, strawberries and a funky earthiness. Due to their old age, the “Vieilles Vignes” are low-yielding - but this is balanced by extremely high-quality fruits. On the palate, you can discover a mature, round mouthfeel and vivid red fruit flavours, along with some hints of white pepper, bay leaf and violets. The wine is driven by a wiry acidity and velvety tannins, propelling you into a long, satisfying finish. Some time in the cellar will give this wine a chance to develop further musky animal notes. Consider pairing it with aged cheeses or a hearty dish like beef bourguignon.
