Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for one hour. Founded in 1956, in Serralunga d'Alba, thanks to the union of some vineyards that at the time belonged to the Opera Pia Barolo, Schiavenza is a family-run winery. The name Schiavenza comes from the same dialect term that indicates the sharecroppers who at the time worked on these plots. Today the company extends over about 8 hectares, which also include some parcels in Monforte d'Alba, and produces splendid wines from Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. The Nebbiolo grapes are selected from the prestigious Broglio cru, located about 360 meters above sea level, on clay/silty soils. This is a traditional Barolo that ages for at least 3 years in large Slavonian oak barrels. This elegant Barolo reveals a clear color with garnet tones and some orange reflections. Its aromatic profile is broad and complex with floral notes of rose, intense aromas of red berries, spices, licorice, leather, and some balsamic hints. On the palate, it is characterful and fresh with firm and well-integrated tannins and a long finish that recalls the scents of the undergrowth. It is traditionally paired with red meat stews and game but it also works well with mature cheeses.
