Petit-Roy Altesse 2021

Drink now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. Located in Chorey-Les-Beaune, Burgundy, Domaine Petit-Roy was founded in 2016 by Seiichi Saito, originally from China, who after various experiences in Japan and Beaune decided to settle permanently in France to produce his wines. Today the estate extends over just over 2 hectares of vineyards, cultivated according to biodynamic standards (but without certification). The Altesse grapes, a white variety indigenous to the Savoy region, are purchased from a vineyard located in Montagnieu. Here the vines enjoy a south-west exposure, and a cool microclimate, and are rooted in hard limestone soil. After fermentation, the wine rests in used barrels for 12-15 months and then in tanks for another 3-5 months before bottling. The Altesse from Domaine Petit Roy is a fresh and youthful wine with a clear straw-yellow color. On the nose, it reveals a lively aromatic profile characterized by notes of lemon and grapefruit and mineral and buttery hints. On the palate, it is tense, vibrant and juicy. It has a medium-light body and a pleasant refreshing acidic vein. The finish is long and recalls an elegant chalky note. It is a wine to be enjoyed now as an aperitif or with lake fish, Savoyard cheeses, and seafood salads, but it can also remain in the cellar for a couple of years.
