Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This is bold, dry red wine, made with Saperavi grapes from the Vachnadziani appellation of Kakheti. The nose exhibits a vibrant bouquet of hedgerow fruits and purple flowers: ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and raspberry mingle with hints of lavender, leather and earth. It is a deep purple colour in the glass, hinting at the rich palate to follow. Tbilvino is considered to be one of the most important wineries in Georgia. It sources fruits from premium vineyards all across the country and has two main production centres, in Tbilisi and Kvareli. It is currently under the leadership of the brothers Zurab and Giorgi Margvelashvili, who have seen the winery become truly modernised, and enormously popular throughout the country and abroad. Tbilvino’s Saperavi is a wonderful expression of Georgia’s flagship red grape. You can discover notes of sour cherry, wild blackberry and crème de cassis, encapsulated in each round, elegant mouthful. As the wine opens up, there are savoury undertones of tobacco, liquorice and forest floor to be found. The Saperavi was fermented in stainless steel, before spending up to 2 months ageing in oak barrels. Enjoy it alongside lamb shashlik, aged cheese, or tomato-rich pasta.
