Luciano Sandrone Barolo Aleste 2018

104

Drink it now or cellar for up to 30 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Luciano Sandrone has been one of the most renowned wine producers in the Piedmont and Barolo area since 1978. Today, the company is in the hands of Luciano, his brother Luca and his daughter Barbara, who manage the approximately 27 hectares planted mainly with the three Langhe vines, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. Aleste, whose first vintage dates back to 2013, is produced with Nebbiolo grapes from the Cru Cannubi Boschis, located in the municipality of Barolo. It is the most representative Sandrone wine and marks the continuity with the first wine of the company Barolo Cannubi Boschis. Its name is a result of the acronym of Sandrone's grandchildren (Alessia and Stefano). The grapes are fermented in steel vats and the finished wine rests in French oak tonneaux for 2 years before being further refined in the bottle for 18 months. It has a bright ruby color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it reveals a broad, elegant, and complex aromatic profile with fruity notes, rose petals and tobacco, balsamic hints, and spicy scents. On the palate, it is intense and dynamic, with a firm tannic structure and a well-balanced refreshing vein. The finish is long with balsamic touches and light spicy notes. Try it with lamb skewers, pulled pork, or beef and mushroom stews.
