Chateau Mukhrani Saperavi Superior 2021

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located in western Georgia, Château Mukhrani is a winery with over a century of winemaking history. The castle was built in the 12th century, but the vineyards were planted in the late 1800s. The estate, which now has around 100 hectares of vineyards, was completely renovated in 2002 after years of abandonment. Today, the vines are grown organically, and the cellar operations are managed by winemaker Patrick Honnef using traditional methods combined with modern technology. The wine is made from pure Saperavi grapes, sourced from the estate's vineyards. This grape, now considered the most representative among the indigenous Georgian varieties, can make wines of great character and excellent aging potential. Château Mukhrani Saperavi is a powerful wine, with an intense ruby color and a broad and fragrant aromatic profile. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet of red and dark fruits (blackberry, cherry, and wild berries) followed by some delicate woody notes, dried figs, and chocolate. On the palate, it is soft and consistent, deep and dry, flavorful and well-structured with ripe and well-integrated tannins and a pleasant and light acidity. The finish is long and recalls notes of cocoa and ripe red fruits. Try it with fillet steak with green pepper, a juicy grilled hamburger, or traditional Georgian Khachapuri.
