Chateau Mukhrani Shavkapito 2021

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before service. With a long history and tradition, Château Mukhrani is widely considered one of the most prestigious wineries in Georgia. Its construction dates back to the 12th century but it was not until the late 19th century that the Chateau began producing wine, initially in the Bordeaux style. After years of abandonment, the company resumed its activity following a complete renovation of both the castle and the vineyards. The cellar was also renovated and the vineyards were converted to organic farming. Today Chateau Mukhrani maintains its European spirit while focusing on indigenous Georgian grape varieties to produce stylish and contemporary wines. The Shavkapito grape, originally from the Kartli region, is a less widely grown variety with great potential. More youthful and easy to approach than Saperavi, this grape produces full-bodied wines with good aging potential. The wine has a deep, clear ruby color and a pronounced, rich aromatic profile with delicious notes of plum and black cherry, raspberry jam, and then light hints of coffee and licorice. On the palate, it is well structured and balanced with a firm acidity and ripe, well-integrated tannins. It has a medium-full body and a long, concentrated finish. It is excellent with Greek-style roast goat leg, or Middle Eastern lamb stew.
