Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in Kartli, near the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, Château Mukhrani dates back to the 12th century. Its winemaking activity is more recent however, dating back to 1875, when Prince Ivane Mukhranbatoni, inspired by his travels in France, and in particular Bordeaux, decided to plant French grape varieties and build a large winery. Today, Château Mukhrani still resembles a Bordeaux chateau in style, but its winemaking today focuses on organically grown indigenous Georgian varieties and modern, cutting-edge winemaking. Reserve Royale Saperavi is a wine of extraordinary quality, produced in a limited edition. The grapes of the indigenous Georgian variety Saperavi, grown organically, come from selected plots among the oldest of the estate's vineyards. In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and intense color with dark ruby tones. Its aromatic profile is ripe and broad with notes of dark berries, blackberry, mulberry, and cherries followed by hints of vanilla and smoked wood. On the palate, it is round and soft, balanced and elegant with velvety tannins and a subtle refreshing acidity. The finish is long and recalls notes of ripe plum. It is a wine that shows good aging potential but is already enjoyable now, especially when paired with game stews and red meat.
