The Designer Coro’s story began in 1901 when Emanuel Cohn and Carl Rosenberger opened a small accessory store in New York. The name Coro derived from the partners surnames was not established until the early 1940’s. In 1929 the company purchased a manufacturing facility in Rhode Island which became one of the largest makers of costume jewellery until it ceased trading in 1979. The company’s success is attributed to the high-quality appealing designs alongside the fact that they were affordable which made the jewellery accessible to a wide range of consumers. Throughout the years the company used several signatures such as Corocraft and Vendome, both high end ranges. The signature of Jewelcraft is the UK mark with the brand displaying popularity throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s. Jewelcraft products are identifiable from their colourful enamel and are sometimes signed ‘Made in England.
