Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Founded in 1952, Roger Sabon is a family-run winery managed today by Roger's sons, Denis and Gilbert, while the role of winemaker is held by his brother-in-law Didier Negron. Over the years the company has grown and today extends over 30 hectares of vineyards distributed in the Châteauneuf du Pape, Lirac, and Côtes-du-Rhône AOCs, where Grenache always has a place of honor. The entire range of wines produced shows great elegance and excellent aging potential. Roger Sabon's Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve is a mostly Grenache blend, with additions of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The grapes, coming from clay-limestone plots, are harvested manually and, after fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels. The wine shows a deep and brilliant color with ruby tones. On the nose, it reveals a complex aromatic profile with fruity and spicy notes, hints of chocolate, herbs, and undergrowth. On the palate, it is a bold wine with great character. It is deep, warm, and full-bodied with silky tannins and a balanced acidity. The finish is soft and long. It is a powerful and extremely elegant wine. Try it with roast beef or lamb, and with mature cheeses.
