Nicolas Rossignol Pommard Premier Cru Charmots 2019

96

Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Coming from a family of winemakers with a long tradition, Nicolas Rossignol created his own winery in 1997, after years of working in various wineries in France and abroad. The vineyards, cultivated according to methods inspired by biodynamics, extend over approximately 17 hectares and are distributed across 30 appellations. The Pinot Noir grapes for this elegant Burgundy wine are sourced from vines of about 50 years, located in the Combe de Pommard, at a fairly high altitude with limestone soil with stones, characterized by a steep slope and southern exposure. The Pommard Charmots 1er Cru is a classy and expressive wine with a clear and dense color with dark ruby tones and a broad and complex aromatic profile. On the nose, it reveals notes of ripe red fruits and violets, hints of incense, earthiness, and undergrowth. On the palate, it is round and concentrated with a medium body and a well-balanced vein of freshness. The tannins are fine and velvety and the finish is long and gently spicy. It is a wine that expresses all the elegance of the Pommard terroir, and can age well and for a long time in the cellar. For those who can't resist, it is worth trying with braised rabbit, duck sausages, or roast pork belly.
