Small in size but bursting with floral brilliance, Magnolia x loebneri 'Pirouette' boasts an impressive display of double flowers on its compact frame. In March and April, the bare branches are covered in citrus-scented blooms, with shorter outer tepals and longer inner ones, creating the stunning appearance of glistening white waterlilies?truly a sight to behold when in full bloom. As it matures, this medium to large shrub or small tree continues to produce an abundance of flowers, even at a young age, so impatient gardeners won?t have to wait long for this springtime spectacle. In the autumn, the large, dark green leaves turn vibrant bronze and yellow before falling. A cross between Magnolia stellata and Magnolia kobus, Pirouette thrives in moist, acidic soils but can tolerate slightly alkaline conditions if plenty of organic matter is incorporated into the planting site. Ideal for small gardens where larger Magnolias might struggle, this well-behaved, deciduous shrub makes a perfect specimen for a sheltered border. Height and spread: 3m (10ft). Since plant size varies seasonally, we list by pot size rather than a fixed size. The height and spread of the plant you receive will vary depending on the season, and arrival images serve as a reference.
