Enjoy it now or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. This 100% Torrontes wine begins with an aromatic nose, packed with scents of citrus, lemongrass, and tropical notes of lychee, guava and melon. It is sourced from old vines growing in Finca Las Mercedes in the Cafayate Valley, on poor, calcareous soils that create a concentrated fruit. El Esteco winery lies in the heart of The Calchaquí Valleys, spanning the two regions of Cafayate and Chañar Punco. The headquarters, a century-old colonial-style building, sits at about 1,700 meters above sea level. The winery owns almost 1,000 acres of vineyards in all, covering a wide variety of terroirs that embody the very best that Argentina has to offer. The Old Vines Torrontes is stunningly fresh in the mouth, exhibiting a youthful character driven by relentless acidity. It is also slightly sweet, with flavours of ripe peach, wild lemon and pure stoney minerality. It’s an unoaked wine, matured in egg-shaped concrete tanks for 6 to 8 months before release. In the glass, it is an attractive straw yellow, with hints of green. Consider pairing this wine with chicken, fish, or spicy Asian curries, where the wine’s inherent sweetness can work magic.
