FJ Gritsch Hochrain Gruner Veltliner Smaragd 2023

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. Located in the wine region and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wachau in Austria, the FJ Gritsch winery is based in the historic Mauritiushof in Spitz on the Danube. The estate, owned by the Gritsch family for approximately 200 years and 7 generations, has approximately 15 hectares of vineyards located on dramatic terraces where mechanical work is impossible. Today the company is led by Franz-Josef Gritsch and produces high-quality wines thanks to a perfect combination of respect for traditions and the use of advanced technologies. The Gruner Veltliner grapes are harvested manually from the terraced Hochrain vineyard located at approximately 215-290 m above sea level between St Michael and Wösendorf, on paragneiss soils with a sandy loess bottom. Fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature and the finished wine ages on the lees. The wine reveals an intense and fresh aromatic profile with notes of yellow fruit, bergamot, and dried herbs. On the palate, it is dry and lean, with a vibrant acidity and an almost creamy structure. It is rich and fruity with a long and persistent finish that recalls hints of pepper. It works great with many vegetarian dishes, but it's an absolute must-try with an asparagus and gruyere quiche.
