Head High Pinot Noir 2019

29

Cellar for up to 10 years. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. This is a fantastic Californian Pinot Noir, crafted from a medley of five famously foggy vineyards around Sonoma County, including Gap’s Crown. It begins with a nose of black cherry and other dark fruits, with underlying accents of spice, sandalwood, lavender, and barnyard floor. It is a ruby red in the glass, hinting at the pure, classically Pinot Noir character to follow. The winery was founded by Bill Price and Prema Kerollis, who are also the founders of the acclaimed Three Sticks winery. They approach winemaking with a grape growers’ sensibility, always striving for a pure expression of the land in their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. Each purchase also contributes to a cleaner environment, through charity to social and environmental organisations. Head High’s Pinot Noir begins with a medium body and a smooth texture in the mouth. It is remarkably potent, and a vibrant acidity elevates the flavour profile. Look for notes of red currant, raspberry, cherry, and liquorice with a strong background of earthy mushrooms and oak. It is a wine for Pinot purists, or anybody seeking a pairing partner for turkey, mushroom risotto, or salmon steak.
