Enjoy it now, or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. The seeds of Leeuwin Estate were sown in 1972 by the Napa Valley icon Robert Mondavi, who offered mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan, former cattle farmers who were sitting on a veritable vine goldmine in Margaret Valley. In 1979, after transforming their land, Leeuwin Estate released its first wine - it has since become an internationally renowned winery, exporting to over 30 countries around the world. The Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay is a top-class Western Australian white, crafted from three distinct clones of the Burgundy grape - Gingin, Davis, and Bernard. They all spent 10 months in oak barrels before bottling, imparting hints of butter, toasted nuts, and nougat to the nose. These aromas sit alongside a blast of tart fruits - white peach, lemon zest, and green apple. On the palate, this is a medium-bodied affair, with crisp acidity and layers of texture. The orchard fruit notes continue to the palate, joined by sweet hints of quince, orange verbena, and candied lemon. From the depth and structure already on the palate, it is clear that this wine can age for some time. Consider pairing it with creamy pasta dishes, soft pungent cheese, or a piece of white fish.
