Drink now. Cellar for up to 14 years. No need to decant before serving. Set in the picturesque Slovenian region of Goriška Brda, Movia is one of Eastern Europe’s most exciting wineries thanks to their eclectic range of artisanal and biodynamic wines. The estate dates back to 1700 and has been in the hands of the local Kristančič family since 1820. They work a total of 18 hectares of vines with around half of their land lying across the border in Italy. This magnificent Cabernet is made in the traditional Movia style which involves late harvesting and fermentation using wild yeasts. The vines have an average age of 30 years which helps to produce intense fruit with relatively low yields. After harvesting by hand the grapes are fermented and macerated for 3-4 weeks and then the young wine is matured for four years in large 180 litre Slovenian oak casks. This extensive maturation helps to produce a very intense and complex wine with many layers of flavour. On the nose there are hints of dark berries and cherries as well as leather, licorice and cigar box spice. The first sip reveals a full body, smooth and ripe tannins and a vivacious nucleus of fruit which will respond very well to additional cellaring.
