Zlaty Roh Pinot Noir 2020

26

Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. The young Slovak winery Zlaty Roh is located in the village of Devin, not far from Bratislava. The company, which started its activity in 2014 with the planting of new vineyards, today produces wines from international vines such as Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards, cultivated organically, are located at an altitude of 200-300 m above sea level, close to the Danube river, and enjoy diversified soils and favorable climatic conditions for the production of high-quality wines. Pinot Noir Zlaty Roh is a very elegant, Burgundy-style wine. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand. After fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine ages in barrels and amphorae for 10 months. It is a bright ruby red wine with a fruity aromatic profile with scents of cherry and wild berries, hints of forest floor, and some light earthy and spicy notes. On the palate, it is balanced and soft with velvety and fine tannins. The finish is long and recalls peppery notes. It’s a very versatile and food-friendly wine and works perfectly with duck and goose, roasted mushrooms, truffle risotto and some hearty vegetarian recipes.
