Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant. After 40 years of experience in the Tuscan wine sector, the Falvo family decided in 1999 to buy and restore Masseria Li Veli, an ancient winery founded in the early twentieth century. The project had as its objective the recovery of the native Apulian varieties for the production of high-quality wines. Today the perfectly restored farmhouse is the home of Edoardo and Alfredo Falvo who take care of the vineyards with great meticulousness to produce wines that are a strong expression of Puglia and its ancient winemaking traditions. The Primitivo grapes are selected from approximately 20-year-old vineyards planted on sandy soils with calcareous residues. Fermentation takes place in French oak vats at a controlled temperature and the wine is then aged in French oak barriques and barrels. Askos (which refers to a Greek decanter from the 1st century BC, depicted on the bottle) is the name of the Masseria Li Veli project dedicated to the research and selection of the heritage of native Apulian vines. Primitivo Askos has an intense ruby-red color with violet reflections. The nose reveals the typical aromas of this extraordinary vine: wild berries, plums, and sour cherries and a background of sweet spices, toasted coffee, and Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth, it is soft and well-structured and has a lively freshness. The tannins are silky and the finish is persistent. The wine goes well with red meat stews or rich pasta dishes with spiced meat sauces.
