Champagne Laherte Freres Les 7

108

Drink now or cellar for up to 14 years. Serve chilled. This unique and beautiful Grower Champagne is crafted by the talented Laherte family using a broad selection of indigenous varieties alongside the classic Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The Laherte family have been making wine on their property near Épernay since 1889 when it was purchased by Jean-Baptiste Laherte. Today it’s run by the seventh generation of the family, winemaker Aurélien, who takes care of 9 hectares of vines spread across an impressive 70 parcels of land. One of the new wave of innovative and ambitious young winemakers in Champagne, Aurélien is pushing the boundaries of the style with this pioneering Champagne. The wine takes its name from the seven varieties present here which include the little-known Petit Meslier, Fromenteau, and Arbanne. It’s made from a solera system, or a perpetual reserve, which was begun in 2005 and features seven Burgundy barrels from which reserve wines are taken each year. These older wines are then blended with the wines of the new vintage, with the reserve wine normally making up 40% of the blend. The result is an incredibly complex and refined Champagne which boasts notes of chalky stone, black truffle, and dried herbs layered over a bright citrus core. The power and elegance of this special bottle make it the perfect choice to give as a gift or enjoy at special family occasions and celebrations. Pair with oysters, creamy cheeses, or simply savour and enjoy as an aperitif to appreciate its true charm.
