Audry Memorial Cognac 0,7LA Fine Champagne Réserve Cognac by AudrySo much tension here between delicate and brooding, familiar and exotic, finesse and power, shifting and surprising with each whiff and sip. Audry Memorial is an elegant, dark amber blend of 30- to 60-year-old stocks from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. At first, the nose is deceptively bright, offering aromas of violet, fresh apple, pepper and candied lime peel, but it quickly reveals its depth with fleshy tropical-fruit notes indicative of seriously evolved rancio. In the mouth, its both linear and generous, revealing layer upon layer of flavor: sharp ginger, licorice and tobacco balanced by softer notes of honey, ripe pear and juicy plum. At the midpalate, it reaches another level with intense flavors of grilled mango and pineapple. The smoke-tinged, grilled-nut, linear finish lingers forever. A beautiful Cognac and a tremendous value. (42% abv) 98 Points Jason Wilson Vinous September 2019Rich and complex aromas include fresh apple and cracked green peppercorn. With aeration, notes of coffee, tobacco, cocoa and spices rise from the glass, along with a subtle hint of almond. What a fantastic nose! The palate is fullbodied and mellow, with a persistent aftertaste where spice weaves its way between honey notes. Great balance, great cognac! D&M Tasting NotesAudry is made from blends of the original reserve and a few lots bought from a small group of local growers; they no longer distill grapes, and are slowly using up their old casks. The results are divine. A standard XO can be released after six 1/2 years; Audry's basic XO is aged from 12 to 30 years. Its otherworldly Exception and Reserve Aristide have been aged up to six decades. Audry is a superb Cognac - exquisite, layered, and impeccably crafted. They release less than 10,000 bottles a year.Their blends are made from the finest cognacs of the two premier districts of the Cognac area: Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, and thus carry the Fine Champagne label. They are aged for many years, even decades, in barrels made of oak from the Limousin and Tronçais forests. This Cognac is a tremendous value, being made from Cognacs of 30 to 60 years average age, and is Audry's flagship bottling, first made in 1978. Intense fruit and earth, with mango, pine needle, deep loam and fine wood. A hint of Sherry-like rancio, giving way to a huge burst of flavor, but never losing its eloquence.
