Wisteria brachybotrys 'Showa-beni'

75

Wisteria brachybotrys 'Showa-beni' is a introduction with a bright yellow spot in the centre of each bloom. It produces bean-like seed pods that dangle from the branches after flowering. It's a strong climber that is ideal for a large wall or trained over a pergola. Silky Wisteria gets its name from the downy leaflets that run along the main leaf stem. The lengthy, pinnate leaves provide a delightful background for the scented lilac-pink flowers that bloom in late spring and early summer. Individual flowers of this species are much bigger than those of the more well-known Chinese Wisteria, forming short, slightly stumpy racemes that are equally eye-catching. Height: up to 12m (40'). Spread: 8m (26'). Supplied as a grafted plant.
