Parrotia persica 'Vanessa'

40

This award-winning multi-season tree forms a small to medium branching tree with a vertical, pyramidal habit and is favoured for its striking autumn foliage and unique blooms in February-March. Parrotia persica ?Vanessa? produces large, deeply veined leaves which are tinted bronze when young, gradually transforming to glossy green as they mature before changing to warm shades of orange, golden and wine-red in autumn. Deep into winter, before the foliage emerges, ?Bella? produces clusters of interesting, spider-like, crimson blooms that look similar to Witch Hazel. Once this Persian Ironwood matures it develops eye-catching, flaking bark which adds additional interest in winter. A superb specimen tree, particularly for smaller gardens. Height: 4-10m (13-32ft). Spread: 2-4m (6.5-13ft).
