Parrotia persica 'Bella'

40

This extraordinary cultivar forms a small to medium branching tree with a vertical habit and is favoured for its striking autumn foliage and unique blooms in February-March. Parrotia persica ?Bella? produces large, deeply veined leaves which are tinted with deep red/purple when young, gradually transforming to glossy green as they mature before changing to warm shades of orange and wine-red in autumn. Deep into winter, before the foliage emerges, ?Bella? produces clusters of interesting, spider-like, crimson blooms that look similar to Witch Hazel. Once this Persian Ironwood matures it develops eye-catching, flaking bark which adds additional interest in winter. A superb specimen tree! Height: 6m (19.6ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).
