Hydrangea quercifolia 'Amethyst'

80

A rarely seen variety that is a striking twist on the usual white-bloomed type of Hydrangea quercifolia. From mid summer to autumn, Hydrangea quercifolia 'Amethyst' produces conical panicles of cream-white flowers that gradually change to a deep shade of plum as they mature. This unusual bloom colour works beautifully with the attractive oak-like foliage that takes on red and purple hues in the autumn. Oak-leaved hydrangeas require very little maintenance or pruning and love a sunny or semi-shaded spot. These resilient plants make a great choice for woodland gardens or mixed borders and are more tolerant of drought than mophead varieties once established. Height: 2m (6.5ft). Spread: 1.8m (5.9ft).
