A mid-season and self-fertile variety that is a mutation of the red wine grape ?Pinot Noir?. Grape 'Pinot Gris' has a blueish-grey or golden to bronze-pink skin with a pale green flesh and is classed as a white grape variety. Better known under its Italian name 'Pinot Grigio', this variety originates from France and makes a delicious, crisp, dry white wine. Grape ?Pinot Gris? produces densely bunched grapes with easy-to-remove skin and contains pips. Can be grown outside or under protection. The vines will also make a beautiful feature trained over a pergola with their large, lobed leaves that change colour in autumn. Height of cordon trained vine: 1.8m (6'). Spread of cordon trained vine: 1.5m (5'). Untrained plants may reach up to 8m (26'). Estimated time to cropping once planted: 2 years. Estimated time to best yields: 3 years.
