This drought-tolerant shrub offers excellent ground cover for challenging arid areas since it thrives in well-draining soil. A low-growing rockrose called Helianthemum Bronze Carpet produces a carpet of tiny, evergreen leaves that, in the late spring and summer, become dotted with lovely burnt orange, five-petalled flowers with contrasting yellow stamens. The bright blooms, which have a diameter of around an inch, are ideal for giving a pop of colour to rockeries, containers, and the edges of sunny borders and pathways. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).
