Penstemon smallii is an earlier flowering variety compared to border hybrid penstemons and has much larger, wider leaves that become blushed with red-bronze during winter. In May and June, the stunning dark purple-bronze stems boast eye-catching, bright purple flowers with a white throat striped with deep purple. This wonderful species penstemon is perfect for naturalistic planting and copes well in semi-shade as well as in a sunny position with free-draining soil. Height: 60cm (24in). Spread: 40cm (16in).
