Apple 'Sunset,' which has many similarities to Cox, is an excellent alternative for garden production. The flavor is sharp and intense, and the skins have the same distinctive red-stripes and orange flush as English dessert apples. This variety, on the other hand, is disease resistant and has a compact habit, making it easier to grow and producing far higher yields. In late September, the fruits can be harvested and eaten fresh from the tree, or made into a refreshing juice. Overabundant fruits can be stored until December.
